Shooting Every Mannequin's Head Off Unlocks a Secret Retro Filter
When Nuketown '84 launched for Cold War, fans quickly worked out that shooting the heads off every single mannequin scattered around the map triggers a hidden visual effect, dropping the whole screen into a green or purple-and-blue retro filter reminiscent of old arcade cabinets. It's a small touch, but it ties in nicely with the map's 80s setting and the game's love of arcade-era references.
Asav's Voice Actor Plays a Lot of Villains
Usman Ally, the Obie Award-winning stage actor behind antagonist Asav, has built a career out of playing bad guys across TV and film, and that experience shows in just how calm and unsettling he manages to make the character sound.
Claude's Name Is Never Actually Said Out Loud
You'd think the silent protagonist of GTA III would at least get named on screen somewhere, but nope. His name only gets confirmed years later, buried in a phone call you can overhear during San Andreas. Blink and you'll miss it.
Horikoshi Draws With a Comic in His Other Hand
Kohei Horikoshi is such a die-hard fan of American superhero comics that in one interview he flat out said he's often got a Japanese-translated Marvel or DC comic in one hand while he's actually drawing MHA pages with the other. He's also mentioned being especially fond of Spider-Man.
Recycled from Black Sails
A chunk of the show's nautical hardware isn't new at all. Director Steven Maeda has talked about repurposing ships and set pieces left behind from the Starz pirate drama Black Sails, which had also filmed in the same Cape Town facilities years earlier.
A Monty Python Moment
Tucked away somewhere in the game is a reference clearly lifted from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which honestly fits given how much of Witcher 3's writing leans on dry, self-aware humour.
A Theme You Only Hear Twice
Composers Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard made a conscious choice to use Batman's heroic musical theme only twice across the whole film. Their reasoning was that a hummable heroic tune would undercut the darker, messier version of the character they were going for, so hearing it sparingly turns it into what Zimmer called a kind of musical foreshadowing.
The Legendary-Only Elite
Crank the difficulty up to Legendary on Winter Contingency and there's a one-off Elite roaming the level that simply doesn't show up on any other setting. Most players never see it because, well, not many people finish the opening mission on the hardest difficulty just to poke around.
The RV Was a Real 1986 Fleetwood Bounder
The battered meth-lab-on-wheels was a genuine 1986 Fleetwood Bounder. The actual RV used in filming got destroyed as part of the story, but a couple of replicas were built afterward and still get shown off to fans.
