Built in Nine Months

Full production on Vice City reportedly only lasted around nine months, which is a genuinely wild timeline for a game of this scale even by today's standards, let alone 2002. The team leaned heavily on assets and tech already built for GTA III to hit that deadline, and it clearly paid off given how the game turned out.

The Tops' House Band Is a Rat Pack Tribute

The performers at the Aces theater in the Tops, led by Tommy Torini, are called the Rad Pack Revue, a direct play on the real-world Rat Pack of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and friends. It goes a step further too, since actual Sinatra and Martin recordings show up on the in-game radio, tying the joke together nicely.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Get a Nod

Somewhere in the storybook world of the Land of a Thousand Fables, there's a bridge with an actual red pepper sitting underneath it, a cheeky little reference from developers who were clearly Red Hot Chili Peppers fans.

Best Jeanist's Name Is Literally a Denim Pun

Tsunagu Hakamada's hero name Best Jeanist is a pun lifted from a real denim enthusiast award, which lines up nicely with a Quirk that lets him manipulate fibers. Even his surname contains the kanji for hakama, a piece of traditional Japanese clothing.

A Restaurant Called Duck Hunt

As the brothers walk home through Brooklyn, they pass a restaurant with the French name Chasse au Canard painted on the window. Translate it and you get Duck Hunt, a sly little tribute to the 1985 NES light gun classic hiding in plain sight.

Sanji Trained Like a Chef Too

Because so much of Sanji's identity is tied to food, Taz Skylar didn't just train in taekwondo and MMA before filming, he also spent time training with an actual chef so his cooking scenes would feel authentic rather than staged.

Paul Dini Wrote an Original Story Just for the Game

Rather than adapting an existing comic or film plot, Warner Bros brought in veteran Batman writer Paul Dini - the man behind so much of The Animated Series - to craft a story specifically for Arkham Asylum. It's part of why the game's dialogue and character writing feels a cut above most licensed titles from that era.

The Duffers Only Made Stranger Things Because They Were Rejected From It

While the 2017 remake of Stephen King's It was in early development, Matt and Ross Duffer actually pitched themselves as directors for it and got turned down. Rather than sulk, they redirected all that Stephen King energy into their own passion project instead, which became Stranger Things. There's a nice bit of irony in the fact that Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, ended up starring in the actual It movies anyway.

Tommy's Haircut Went Viral, and Cillian Hates It

The short-back-and-sides look that basically launched a thousand barbershop requests wasn't something Cillian Murphy ever warmed to. He's said he finds the whole Tommy Shelby cut a bit horrifying, even as fans keep turning up to meet him sporting the exact same style.

Three Different Endings, No Real Pattern

As the credits wrap up, there's a short scene of the Batwing heading back to Gotham while a crate of Titan formula bobs in the water below Arkham. An arm reaches out to grab it - but whose arm you get seems totally random. Sometimes it's Killer Croc, sometimes Scarecrow, sometimes Bane, and nobody's quite pinned down what decides it.
