Nintendo actually sent over unused character sketches for the wider Mario family, and the directors have said the dad's design is basically a one-to-one match for that original artwork, with the mum's design following pretty closely behind.

When Loki tracks down a Sacred Timeline version of Mobius, we learn his real name is Don and his house is numbered 1049. Fans have latched onto this as a possible nod to Earth-1049, one of the countless designated realities scattered across Marvel's multiverse.
