Guthan's Grief Started a Holy War

The whole reason the Barrows Brothers ended up on their doomed crusade traces back to one very bad night — Guthan, convinced his love Isolde had abandoned him, got drunk and killed a Saradominist commander in a bar brawl. Terrified of the consequences, he talked his brothers into joining a holy war as a way of escaping his own guilt.

Their Weapons Were Never Really a Gift

The Barrows equipment that made the six brothers seem practically unbeatable in battle wasn't blessed by Saradomin at all — it was handed to them by Sliske, and it came with strings attached that none of them realised until it was far too late to back out.

Death Wasn't the End of Their Service

When the Barrows Brothers finally died of their wounds after the Morytania Campaign, that wasn't actually the end of the story — an ancient spell tied to Sliske's bargain kept their wights bound to their burial mounds, forcing them to guard their own treasure for what's effectively been eternity ever since.

Zamorak Used Someone Else's Weapon to Kill a God

When Zamorak betrayed and struck down Zaros to seize godhood, he didn't even use a weapon of his own making — he did it with the Staff of Armadyl, a relic belonging to an entirely different god. There's something almost darkly funny about ending an empire with someone else's stick.

Armadyl Abandoned Gielinor Out of Grief

Armadyl didn't leave Gielinor out of cowardice or disinterest — he left because he genuinely believed his aviansie followers had been wiped out during the God Wars, and the loss hit him hard enough that he withdrew from the world entirely in mourning.

Bandos Has a Title That Sounds Like a Wrestling Belt

Most of Bandos's followers don't just call him a god of war — they know him as the Big High War God, which is about as blunt and to-the-point a title as you could give someone whose entire following of goblins, orks, ogres, and hobgoblins showed up purely because he wanted a fight.

The Stone of Jas Cost a God Her Own Egg

The Stone of Jas, one of the most fought-over artefacts in the game's history, wasn't just conjured out of nowhere — it was created by the Elder God Jas sacrificing her own egg to make it, which is a genuinely heavy price for something players now casually use for a bit of extra XP.

Twelve Artefacts, One Very On-the-Nose Nickname

All the relics created by the Elder Gods using the power of the Stone of Jas are collectively known, somewhat unimaginatively but accurately, as the Elder Artefacts, or 'the Elder Twelve.' Between them they're responsible for most of the biggest power struggles in Gielinor's history.
