The Reveal Trailer Leaked Too

Even the big reveal trailer couldn't stay under wraps. It found its way online almost two hours before it was supposed to go live, forcing Activision to just push the official release forward rather than let the leaked copy have the last word.

A Bookshop Full Of Developers

Tucked into an alcove of the Trivo Buchhandlung bookstore during the Berlin mission "Scorched Earth" is a shelf display where every book cover is named after someone who worked on the game. One cover stands out from the rest, credited to Guy Beahm alongside a mustache and a pair of sunglasses in a red circle, which just so happens to be the real name and look of streamer Dr DisRespect.

The Kremlin Mission That Never Was

Early leaked builds of the campaign included a mission set inside the Kremlin and had series regular Sandman taking part in the final showdown with Makarov. Neither made it into the finished game, but they're a good reminder of how much the story shifted during development.

Frost Almost Made The Final Cut

In the version that shipped, Delta operative Frost is nowhere to be seen when the remnants of Task Force 141 team up for the penultimate mission. Dig through the game's audio files though and there's a leftover line of Price shouting his name, suggesting he was meant to be part of that rescue before the scene got reworked.

The Flashlight That Vanishes

Watch an enemy soldier carrying a tac-light weapon and the beam is right there. Pick that same gun up yourself, though, and the light disappears instantly. It's not a bug so much as a shortcut, the light is actually attached to the enemy character model rather than the weapon itself.

Two Spec Ops Missions Left On The Cutting Room Floor

Buried in MW3's game files are references to a pair of Spec Ops missions that never made it to the final roster. Nobody outside the studio ever got to play them, and Infinity Ward never said much about why they were dropped.

An Unexpectedly Starry Cast

Plenty of the Delta and SAS soldiers running around MW3's campaign barely get a close-up, but the actors behind them are surprisingly big names. William Fichtner, Idris Elba, Timothy Olyphant, Bruce Greenwood and Barry Pepper all lent their voices to characters who, in most cases, never even get a proper cutscene.

Not As American As They Sound

Truck and Corporal Dunn both read as all-American soldiers, but the actors voicing them aren't American at all. Truck is played by British actor Idris Elba, and Dunn is voiced by Canadian actor Barry Pepper, both nailing the accent well enough that most players never clock it.

One Actor, Two Characters

Scottish actor Tony Curran pulls double duty in MW3, voicing both Captain MacMillan and Yuri, the new playable character introduced for this game. It's a neat bit of trivia that most players wouldn't spot without checking the credits.

Fichtner Plays A Familiar Role

William Fichtner voices Delta operator Sandman in MW3, and it's not the first time he's played this exact type of soldier. In the film Black Hawk Down he portrayed a Delta operator named Sanderson, so the casting almost feels like a knowing callback.
