Pretty much everything in Arcane traces back to Hextech, the invention Jayce and Viktor create to let ordinary people harness magical energy. It's meant to be a great equaliser, but instead it becomes the thing that widens the gap between wealthy Piltover and the neglected undercity of Zaun even further.
Some of the Riddler's environmental clues point toward villains who never actually show up in the game itself, like an early hint dropped toward the Ratcatcher.
