The Infinite 8 Killer's Trail

Scattered clues hidden throughout Los Santos and Blaine County let players follow the trail of a fictional serial killer known as the Infinite 8 Killer, eventually leading to the discovery of his victims' bodies.

Jake Was Basically Bill Murray

Jake's whole laid-back, do-whatever-feels-right vibe wasn't pulled from thin air. Pendleton Ward has said he based the character on Tripper Harrison, Bill Murray's slacker camp counselor from the 1979 comedy Meatballs, right down to the way Jake will drop the goofiness and give Finn real advice when it actually matters.

One Actor Played Ezio His Whole Life

Roger Craig Smith voiced Ezio Auditore continuously from his teenage years at the start of Assassin's Creed II right through to his death at 65 in the short film Assassin's Creed: Embers, giving the character an unusually consistent voice across a good decade of material.

Watson Almost Regenerated Into a Time Lord First

Before Martin Freeman locked down the role of John Watson, Matt Smith actually auditioned for it. He didn't get it, but the producers liked him enough to remember him later when they were casting the Eleventh Doctor on Doctor Who.

A Time Portal Straight Out of Star Trek

One of the game's special encounters is called Guardian of Forever, named for the time-travel portal from the classic Star Trek episode 'The City on the Edge of Forever.' If you talk to it, the Chosen One even mutters a line acknowledging that resistance is futile, borrowing the Borg's catchphrase from a completely different corner of Star Trek lore.

The Crying Baby Problem

In the season one carriage attack scene, the production used a real baby for the shot, and unsurprisingly it would not stop crying on cue. The team ended up leaning on VFX to fake several elements of that sequence, including the sword strikes hitting the carriage walls.

A Real Shipwreck Ended Up On Screen

One of the eerier backdrops Lucy walks past while exploring the surface is the actual wreck of the Eduard Bohlen, a German cargo ship that ran aground on Namibia's coast back in 1909 and has been slowly swallowed by sand ever since. No set dressing needed, it was already sitting there looking perfectly post-apocalyptic.

Rescuing a Princess From Another Castello

During the mission 'Femme Fatale', Lucrezia Borgia cracks a joke about Ezio 'rescuing princesses from castles' as he breaks her out of Caterina Sforza's cell, a clear wink at Mario. Ubisoft doubled down on the gag by naming the related achievement 'Principessa in Another Castello.'

It Started As a Prince of Persia Spin-Off

Before it became its own thing, Assassin's Creed was pitched internally as 'Prince of Persia: Assassin', meant to be a spin-off of Sands of Time. The story drifted so far from the Prince that Ubisoft eventually cut it loose to stand on its own two feet.

The Credits Sequence That Never Happened

Game director Sefton Hill has talked about an idea where the end credits would've turned into an interactive fight scene against Rocksteady's own staff, with each knocked-out developer's name and job title flashing up in slow motion as you beat them. It sounds like an absolute blast, but it never made it past the planning stage.
