Forge Mode Makes Its Debut

Halo 3 introduced Forge, an in-game object editor that let players reshape multiplayer maps by moving, adding, or removing pieces of scenery and weapons. It was far more limited than a full PC map editor, but it laid the groundwork for the custom map culture that would define Halo's multiplayer community for years afterward.

One of Veigar's Skins Is a Sneaky Gandalf Reference

Veigar already plays like a pint-sized Black Mage, but his eagle-rider skin takes things further with a not-so-subtle wink at Gandalf, specifically the moment he gets airlifted by a giant eagle in The Lord of the Rings. Swap the wizard's robes for a yordle and you've basically got the same picture.

Cupcakes Are a Caitlyn Callback

Right at the start of episode one, when Vi, Mylo, Powder and Claggor are legging it across the rooftops, Claggor grabs a cupcake off a tray mid-heist. Looks like a throwaway gag, but that exact cupcake trap is Caitlyn's in-game ability Yordle Snap Trap, icon and all. Vi even calls Caitlyn 'Cupcake' as a nickname later in the show, so the whole thing loops back around nicely.

Murlocs Snuck Into Overwatch

Blizzard couldn't resist bringing their favorite little WoW menace along for the ride. There's a giant murloc slurping a bowl of ramen in Hanamura, murloc plushies up for grabs in the arcade, and murloc graffiti tucked away at Temple of Anubis. None of it means anything, it's just Blizzard being Blizzard.

The Ice Cream Van's Secret Speed-Up

Ever driven an ice cream truck around Liberty City and noticed the tune speeding up? That jingle is actually a warped version of the game's own theme song, and the faster you drive, the faster it plays - a tiny detail Rockstar didn't need to bother with, but did anyway.

Tyrael Literally Fell From the Sky as a Star

Long before he became a fan-favorite archangel, Tyrael crash-landed on Sanctuary as what looked like a falling star. It was the discovery of his shattered sword El'druin at the impact site that eventually led humanity to uncover the existence of the Nephalem.

A Different Name in Japan

Over in Japan the game didn't even carry the Uncharted name. It was released as 'Uncharted: The Secret Treasure of El Dorado', dropping the Drake's Fortune subtitle entirely in favour of something a bit more literal.

The Leak That Turned Ugly

Months before release, huge chunks of the story and cutscenes leaked online, and the fallout was genuinely nasty. Abby's voice actress Laura Bailey ended up receiving death threats aimed at her newborn son, serious enough that some had to be passed along to authorities, and Abby's face model Jocelyn Mettler was reportedly still fielding hate mail years after the game came out.

Excalibur and the Lady in the Lake

Near Bleakwind Basin, a skeletal arm reaches up out of a small lake clutching a sword, a nod to the Lady of the Lake handing Excalibur to King Arthur. A second sword-in-stone reference can also be found elsewhere in the game, both playing on the same legend.

Three Different Body Clocks

Not every protagonist sleeps the same amount. Put Trevor to bed and the clock jumps forward a full twelve hours, Franklin only needs eight, while Michael gets away with just six hours before he's back on his feet. It's a small detail, but it quietly reinforces each character's personality without a single line of dialogue.
