McDonald's Had to Apologize

The Szechuan Sauce fiasco got so out of hand that McDonald's put out a public apology admitting their limited batch clearly wasn't enough for the demand, and promised a proper, much wider re-release. That relaunch finally happened in February 2018, and this time it went off without a single reported incident.

New Vegas Got Rebuilt In North Hollywood

For season two, production shifted away from Namibia and New York entirely, relocating to California so the team could recreate the neon ruins of New Vegas. The shift also let the crew build out locations more familiar from Fallout: New Vegas, following on from that final season one shot teasing the Strip.

Kratos Recast Because Of His Height

Terrence 'T.C.' Carson had voiced Kratos since 2005, but he wasn't tall enough for the full-body motion capture this game needed. That's the reason Christopher Judge, best known as Teal'c from Stargate SG-1, ended up taking over the role.

The Ghoul Needed Nine Separate Prosthetic Pieces

Goggins' transformation into the Ghoul wasn't one mask, it was nine individual prosthetic pieces applied in sequence, along with a punishing daily prep schedule. He's since described the whole ritual as genuinely nerve-wracking, especially in the early days before the process was refined.

The Novels Take You 3,000 Years Before Diablo

The Sin War trilogy isn't set anywhere near the events of the games. It rewinds the clock 3,000 years before the fall of Tristram and follows a farmer named Uldyssian as he gets tangled up in the ancient war between angels and demons over Sanctuary.

Joey Batey Recorded It While Sick

Batey wasn't in great shape when it came time to record the song properly. He turned up to the studio unwell, got through the session on multiple cups of honey and lemon tea, and still managed to nail several clean takes.

The Mario Family's Nintendo Sketches

Mario and Luigi's parents in the movie aren't the filmmakers' invention. Nintendo actually sent over unused character sketches for the wider Mario family, and the directors have said the dad's design is basically a one-to-one match for that original artwork, with the mum's design following pretty closely behind.

One Guy Voices Almost Everything

Turns out the huge cast of grunting, roaring, sniffing mobs you hear wandering around your world mostly comes down to one person. Mojang's audio director Samuel Aberg does the villagers, the sniffers, the piglins and plenty more himself, layering and pitching his own voice to get that range of sounds, with only a few effects (like the arrow thud, which is actually a rattling chair) coming from elsewhere.

Elijah Wood's Unblinking Stare

Elijah Wood happens to have a knack for staring straight ahead for ages without blinking, which turned out to be perfect for the scenes where Frodo lies comatose, wrapped up in Shelob's webbing.

Tenzin Breaks Robin Atkin Downes' Streak

Robin Atkin Downes has played villain after villain across the Uncharted series, so Tenzin sticks out. He's the loyal Tibetan guide who becomes one of Nate's genuine allies, making it the one time Downes gets to play someone actually on Drake's side.
