Years before Destiny released, an advertising billboard reading 'Destiny Awaits' appeared in Bungie's Halo 3: ODST, complete with an image of Earth and what looks like the Traveler hovering above it, an early, subtle tease of the studio's next project.
Inside the Sandtrap multiplayer map's temple, where the giant Elephant vehicle is parked, sits a two-screen laptop that will occasionally flash up a fake Windows-style error screen, complete with the kind of garbled system text you'd expect from a crashed PC rather than a 26th-century UNSC terminal.
Right from the opening level, Sierra 117, Bungie hid a string of small carvings in the jungle's tree trunks, from an initialed love note and a date to a tiny caveman figure and even a whole hidden caveman family. They're easy to run straight past, but they were part of a much longer campaign-wide easter egg hunt players pieced together over the years.
Scattered across every world in the original Destiny are broken, inactive Ghosts that glow faintly blue. Reviving one unlocks a hidden Grimoire lore card, and hunting down fifty of them was rewarded with the 'Ghost Hunter' achievement.
