Wednesday Choreographed Her Own Dance

That whole viral dance to 'Goo Goo Muck' wasn't handed to Jenna Ortega by a choreographer, she made it up herself. She pulled moves from Bob Fosse, Siouxsie Sioux and the goth kids she used to watch at 80s clubs, then stitched it all together into something that somehow feels exactly like Wednesday Addams.

A Nod to the Original Wednesday's Signature Move

Buried inside Jenna Ortega's dance routine is a quick tribute to Lisa Loring, the actress who played Wednesday back in the 1964 series. If you know Loring's little arm flick from the original show, you'll spot it snuck into the choreography.

That Dance Was Filmed Right After COVID

Jenna Ortega has said she'd only just come down with COVID before she had to shoot the now-iconic dance sequence, so every one of those sharp, controlled movements was performed while she was still feeling pretty rough.

Tim Burton Almost Directed the 1991 Movie

Before he ever touched Nevermore Academy, Tim Burton was actually approached to direct the 1991 Addams Family film. He turned it down because he was busy finishing Batman Returns, so the gig went to Barry Sonnenfeld instead, and Burton's Addams moment had to wait another three decades.

Jenna Ortega's Audition Was Covered in Fake Blood

Jenna Ortega jumped onto her Zoom meeting with Tim Burton straight after wrapping a gory scene on another project, so she was still splattered head to toe in fake blood. Burton, being Burton, thought it was hilarious rather than off-putting, and has said since that he can't picture anyone else playing the role.

The Double Finger Snap

To open the hidden passage into the Nightshades' meeting room, Wednesday snaps her fingers twice in rhythm. That's a direct lift from Vic Mizzy's theme tune for the original 1964 series, where the finger snaps were basically the show's whole percussion section.

Where the Name Wednesday Actually Comes From

Wednesday's name is pulled from the old 'Monday's Child' nursery rhyme, the one that says 'Wednesday's child is full of woe.' Given how the character carries herself, it's hard to think of a more fitting line to have named her after.

Christina Ricci Used to Be Wednesday Herself

Casting Christina Ricci as Miss Thornhill is a lovely bit of stunt casting when you remember she actually played Wednesday Addams in the 90s films. Watching the old Wednesday teach the new one is one of those details that only lands if you grew up on the movies.

Cousin Itt's Portrait Hides a Secret

Down in the Nightshades' basement hangout there's a portrait of Cousin Ignatius Itt, and it's not just decoration, there's a safe hidden behind it holding a document that ends up being a key clue in the mystery.

Wednesday's Pet Scorpion Nero

In the original 1964 series Wednesday kept a pet spider called Homer. The Netflix version swaps that for a story about a childhood pet scorpion named Nero, who Wednesday says was killed by bullies when she was six, a much darker spin on the same idea.
