Wednesday Addams is expelled from her school after nearly killing a classmate. This is her eighth expulsion in five years. At wits end, her parents, Morticia and Gomez, send her to Nevermore Academy, Morticia's old school. A school for outcasts, Wednesday should fit in but it appears that even among outcasts she's an outcast. Meanwhile, a monster is killing people near the school.

Pugsley Tied Up With an Apple, Again

Right in episode one, Wednesday finds Pugsley stuffed in a locker, tied up with an apple jammed in his mouth. That exact image shows up in the 1991 Addams Family movie too, just with the roles reversed since this time it's Wednesday who did the tying.

Archery Was Always the Addams Way

When Wednesday signs up for archery as her Nevermore extracurricular, it's a callback to Addams Family Values, where Wednesday and Pugsley treat bow and arrow practice as a pretty normal sibling bonding activity.

Uncle Fester's Ridiculous Paper Trail

According to the Season 2 easter egg breakdown, Uncle Fester is carrying 33 driver's licenses and 18 passports, and Fred Armisen actually sat for every single one of those photos so the prop department had real faces to print.

Nevermore's Gargoyles Are Basically a Seating Chart

Production designer Mark Scruton has explained that the gargoyles carved into Nevermore Academy aren't random, each one was designed to represent a specific outcast group at the school, so you can spot vampires, gorgons and sirens if you look closely at the stonework.

The Weathervane Café's Tim Burton Tribute Wall

The back wall of the Weathervane Café in Jericho is covered in weathervanes that are easy to miss, but a couple of them are shaped like props from Tim Burton's other films, including one topped with Willy Wonka's hat and another with scissors nodding to Edward Scissorhands.

Nevermore's Exterior Is a Real Romanian Castle

For Season 1, the outside of Nevermore Academy was Cantacuzino Castle in Bușteni, Romania. It was actually built in 1911 as a summer home for a former Romanian Prime Minister, long before it got a second life as a boarding school for outcasts.

Nevermore Packed Up and Moved to Ireland

Season 2 swapped Romania for Ireland, with Charleville Castle in County Offaly taking over as the new Nevermore Academy interiors and courtyards, giving the school a slightly different but equally gothic feel.

Charleville Castle's Actual Ghost Story

The real Charleville Castle used for Season 2's Nevermore is reportedly haunted by the ghost of a young girl named Harriet, who is said to have died in a fall on the property around 160 years ago, which honestly feels almost too on brand for this show.

Wednesday Beat Stranger Things' Netflix Record

Wednesday's first season racked up 341.2 million hours viewed in a single week, which knocked Stranger Things Season 4 off the top spot for the biggest week ever for an English-language Netflix series.

Enid's New Look Was a Cyberpunk Makeover

Enid Sinclair's hair gets an update for Season 2, shorter and more intensely coloured than before, and the team behind it has said the new style was deliberately inspired by cyberpunk aesthetics rather than just being a random refresh.
