No name, no footage, just a short confirmation that set off years of speculation and countless fan theories about where it would be set.

That figure counts everywhere the trailer was watched, not just YouTube, so it's not a direct apples-to-apples comparison with Trailer 1's numbers, but it's still a staggering reach for a single video.
In September 2022 a hacker going by 'teapotuberhacker,' who also claimed responsibility for a recent Uber breach, broke into a Rockstar employee's Slack and dumped around 90 clips of early, unpolished GTA VI development footage onto GTAForums. It's still considered one of the biggest leaks in gaming history.
Long before Rockstar officially introduced her, that 2022 leak had already revealed the game would star a female protagonist alongside a male co-lead, giving fans their first unofficial glimpse of who we now know as Lucia and Jason.
History repeated itself in August 2026 when another alleged hacker posted gameplay clips and what looked like a full map of Leonida online, warning other publishers that nobody was safe from the same kind of breach. Fans nicknamed the whole saga the 'Cyberleek' incident.
Rockstar broke from tradition for its big pre-launch gameplay reveal, premiering 'Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look' on Netflix on August 27th, 2026, before letting it loose for free on YouTube and the official site a few hours later that same evening.
