The Mount Chiliad Mural

Inside the cable car lift station at the top of Mount Chiliad, players can find a strange painted mural showing a UFO, a cracking egg, and a figure using a jetpack. The mural fuelled one of gaming's longest-running community investigations, spawning an entire subreddit dedicated to decoding it.

Golden Peyote and the Sasquatch

A hidden 'Golden Peyote' plant lets players transform into Bigfoot, but it only appears at Raton Canyon on Tuesdays between 5:30 and 8:00 AM, and only once every prior peyote plant has already been consumed. It was one of the last major single-player secrets fans uncovered after release.

Bigfoot on the City Seal

Look closely at the official seal of the City of Los Santos, which appears on the side of every LSPD patrol vehicle, and you'll spot a small illustration of Bigfoot tucked into the bottom right corner, a quiet nod to the series' long-running cryptid mythology.

Franklin's Nine-Year Hunt

In the Strangers and Freaks mission 'The Last One', Franklin meets a hunter who claims he's been chasing a Sasquatch for nine years. That's a deliberate reference to GTA: San Andreas, released exactly nine years before GTA V, where rumours of a Bigfoot sighting first took hold of the community.

Rockstar's Tuesday Taunt

When data-miners first located the coordinates for the game's hidden Golden Peyote, they found a comment left directly in GTA V's source code by Rockstar, ribbing the discoverer for starting the hunt on the wrong day of the week: 'he was wrong to start his hunt on Tuesday.'

The Most Expensive Game Ever Made

GTA V's development cost is estimated at around $265 million, with a further $128-150 million spent on marketing, bringing the total to roughly $400 million. At the time of its 2013 launch, that made it the single most expensive entertainment product ever produced.

Three Protagonists, One Story

GTA V was the first game in the series to let players simultaneously control three separate protagonists: Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. Each character required their own voice recording, motion capture sessions, animations, and dedicated mission strands, a huge driver of the game's production cost.

A Billion Dollars in Three Days

GTA V recouped its enormous budget almost instantly, generating more than $1 billion in revenue within just three days of launch and setting multiple entertainment industry sales records in the process.

Master Chief Busking in Vinewood

Wander through Vinewood's 'Chinatown' district and you can find street performers dressed as identical copies of Halo's Master Chief, posing for tips just like the costumed performers found on real Hollywood Boulevard.

Drive's Jacket, Reimagined

A clothing shop near Trevor's rink in Sandy Shores sells a whitish jacket with a crab stitched onto the back, a direct parody of the iconic scorpion jacket Ryan Gosling's character wears throughout the 2011 film Drive.
