Christopher Judge Called It An Apology To His Kids

A lot of the team behind this game had also worked on the original trilogy back when they were younger, and came back to it as parents themselves. Christopher Judge has described playing Kratos in this story, a father learning to actually show up for his son, as something close to an apology to his own children.

The Only First-Person Shot In The Whole Game

While escaping Hel by boat, Atreus witnesses an illusion of Kratos locked in battle with Zeus, and the camera briefly snaps into first-person as he recoils in horror. It's a direct callback to the ending of God of War III, where you see Zeus's death through Kratos's own eyes, and it's the only time the whole game breaks from its usual perspective.
