The delicate balance between the rich city of Piltover and the seedy underbelly of Zaun. Tensions between these city-states boil over with the creation of 'hextech', a way for any person to control magical energy in Piltover, and in Zaun, a new drug called 'shimmer' transforms humans into monsters. The rivalry between the cities splits families and friends as Arcane brings life to the relationships that shape some of League of Legends' famous champions including Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce, Viktor, and Ekko.

Harry Lloyd, who voices the chronically ill genius Viktor, first became widely known playing Viserys Targaryen in the very first season of Game of Thrones. He layers on a distinct accent for Viktor, so it's an easy one to miss unless someone points it out.
Hailee Steinfeld, who plays the hard-hitting Vi, also lends her voice to Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Verse animated films, on top of her live-action roles as Kate Bishop in Hawkeye and Charlie Watson in Bumblebee. Vi and Gwen Stacy came out in overlapping years, so plenty of fans clocked the voice before checking the credits.
Barely a week after its first three episodes dropped, Arcane had already knocked Squid Game off the number one spot worldwide, taking the top of the chart in 34 countries at once. For a show based on a video game with no prior TV adaptation, that's a genuinely wild launch.
By its second week, Arcane was outpacing both Stranger Things and The Mandalorian as the most in-demand digital streaming series in America, according to audience analytics firm Parrot Analytics, with total demand for the show growing well over 600% in just a couple of weeks.
Netflix confirmed a second season was already in production while the finale of season one was still airing, using the tagline 'Ready yourselves, friends' alongside a teaser image of a Hexgate. It's a rare move for a streaming service to commit that early, but the numbers going into that final week made the decision an easy one.
Co-creator Christian Linke has confirmed that Riot and Fortiche are already a year into developing the next chapter of the Arcane universe, this time exploring the regions of Noxus, Ionia and Demacia rather than revisiting Piltover and Zaun directly. Riot has since clarified it's not necessarily three separate shows, more a single project exploring those regions, with reports suggesting a late 2026 or early 2027 window.
Shortly after Arcane wrapped, Riot released a League of Legends cinematic called 'Welcome to Noxus' following Mel Medarda heading home to her birth nation, which a lot of fans took as a not-so-subtle hint about where the next show in the franchise might be headed.
Alongside animated spinoff plans, there have been reports of a separate live-action League of Legends TV project, with location scouting reportedly taking place in Vietnam's Cát Bà Archipelago for a planned nine-episode series. It's a completely different production from the Arcane team's animated follow-up.
