A Concert Venue Carved Into the Hills

The Vinewood Bowl, where the in-game reality show Fame or Shame gets filmed, is modeled closely on the real Hollywood Bowl, sharing the same distinctive concave, bowl-shaped hillside the venue is named after. It's a small detail, but it's exactly the kind of one-to-one landmark swap Rockstar loves hiding throughout the map.

Nate Was Meant to Be Younger and Scrappier

The Nathan Drake originally on the drawing board was pictured as a guy in his twenties, which is part of why his voice was pitched a bit higher and his build a lot leaner than the Drake players actually got in the finished game.

Shipment Was Never Meant to Ship

One of the most beloved multiplayer maps in the whole franchise only exists because somebody forgot to delete it. Multiplayer design director Geoff Smith has said Shipment started life as an internal test map built for old-school split-screen play, and it got accidentally left in the launch playlist. Nobody ever pulled it back out.

The BF Sword Is a Nod to Doom's BFG9000

Ever wonder why the plain, unglamorous BF Sword costs so much for a stat stick with no passive? Part of the charm is the name, which is widely taken as a cheeky reference to Doom's ridiculously overpowered BFG9000. Big, expensive, and a little bit of an inside joke.

Life Model Decoys Are a Deep Comics Cut

When Fury mentions Life Model Decoys to explain away Coulson's supposed 'death', it flew right over most audiences' heads back in 2012. It's actually a proper deep cut reference to the comics, where LMDs are robotic doubles built to stand in for real people - Whedon dropped it in years before it would matter to anyone paying attention.

Old Scenes Got Digitally Reshot With The New Actor's Face

To smooth over the recast, the show didn't just move on quietly. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has said they went back and reshot pivotal older moments with Liam Hemsworth in them instead of Henry Cavill, specifically so the change wouldn't feel glossed over.

The Opening Facility Sets Up Captain Marvel Years Later

The film opens inside the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility, a SHIELD and NASA site studying the Tesseract as part of Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. It seems like throwaway setup at the time, but that exact facility becomes central to Captain Marvel years later, when a young Nick Fury and Carol Danvers head there to dig into Dr Wendy Lawson's research.

Over 4,000 Animations for One Assassin

Altaïr's movement was built from more than 4,000 individual character animations, an enormous amount for 2007, all in service of making his climbing and parkour feel fluid rather than robotic across the game's rooftops and market stalls.

Cupcakes Are a Caitlyn Callback

Right at the start of episode one, when Vi, Mylo, Powder and Claggor are legging it across the rooftops, Claggor grabs a cupcake off a tray mid-heist. Looks like a throwaway gag, but that exact cupcake trap is Caitlyn's in-game ability Yordle Snap Trap, icon and all. Vi even calls Caitlyn 'Cupcake' as a nickname later in the show, so the whole thing loops back around nicely.

Chief's Cameo in the Cryo Pod

There's a moment aboard the Pillar of Autumn near the end of the campaign where, if you play your cards right during the cutscene, you can spot Master Chief already tucked away in his cryo pod. It's a tiny blink-and-you-miss-it nod that ties Reach's ending directly into the opening of the very first Halo.
