The Rescued Tank Has an Actual Name

The M1A1 Abrams your squad frees during The Bog isn't just 'the tank,' it's nicknamed War Pig, and that nickname goes on to become the title of the mission right after.

The Game That Started as 'Cave Game'

Before it had its iconic name, Minecraft was a scrappy little project Notch was calling Cave Game while he tinkered with it in his spare time. He was openly borrowing ideas from Dwarf Fortress, Infiniminer and even RollerCoaster Tycoon, mashing them together into something nobody had quite seen before. Funny to think the biggest game on the planet started life sounding like a budget dungeon crawler.

The Meteorite Outside the Map

Walk past the little shed in the Storage area of Nacht der Untoten and look out past the barriers - there's a big red meteorite just sitting out there beyond the playable space. It ties back to the whole 115/meteor lore thread that runs through Zombies.

Elder Speech Is A Real Constructed Language

The magic users of the Continent, like Geralt and Yennefer, don't just mutter fantasy gibberish when they cast spells. Elder Speech is treated as its own proper in-world language throughout the series, separate from the English used for everyday dialogue.

NPCs Named After Real Trivia Contest Winners

Before launch, Black Isle ran a Fallout trivia contest online and through an Australian gaming mag. The two winners, Lucas Kawarski from Poland and Cameron Rapmund from Australia, got themselves written into the game as actual villagers in Arroyo. A later patch even swapped the placeholder names Dumar and Standing Fist for Cameron and Lucas to make the tribute official.

Nikolai's Zombies Voice Actor Was Uncredited

Fred Tatasciore voices Nikolai Belinski in the Nazi Zombies mode, but for whatever reason he never actually got a proper credit for it in the game's cast list. He'd go on to voice loads more Zombies characters in later Treyarch games, so it's a bit of an odd oversight in hindsight.

A $200 Million Student Film

Jeff Bridges is a famously prepared actor, so having no real script to work from freaked him out at first. He eventually made peace with it by telling himself he was just part of a very expensive student film, and once he reframed it that way, he said it turned out great.

Joey Batey Recorded It While Sick

Batey wasn't in great shape when it came time to record the song properly. He turned up to the studio unwell, got through the session on multiple cups of honey and lemon tea, and still managed to nail several clean takes.

The Rarest Bird Nest Got Broken by Accident

There's a wonky-looking bird nest that's one of the rarest items in the game, and it can't even be obtained normally anymore since the trade route for it got discontinued back in 2016. Years later Jagex tried to give it a proper high alchemy value and instead accidentally updated its x-rotation, so now it just spins weirdly in your inventory.

Donkey Kong's First Redesign Since '94

The version of Donkey Kong you see swinging around in the movie is his first real design update since 1994. The filmmakers blended his classic, chunkier 1981 arcade look with the more modern proportions he's had since Donkey Kong Country to land somewhere in between.
