A Writer's Regret About Talking Deathclaws

Chris Avellone, one of the writers on the project, has openly said he can't stand the idea of intelligent, talking deathclaws that Fallout 2 introduced. In his view they never fit the tone of what Fallout was supposed to be, and he's brought up his dislike of the idea more than once over the years.

Deadshot's Not-Quite-A-Lightsaber

Crack open the circuit box where Deadshot keeps his gear stashed and there's a weird glowing prop that a lot of players assumed was a lightsaber reference. Turns out it's actually just a low-res model of a sniper scope that ended up looking way more sci-fi than intended. Still funny that it fooled so many people.

Calendar Man Knows What Day It Is

Visit Calendar Man in his cell and change your console or PC's system date to match certain real dates, and he'll come out with a unique bit of dialogue tied specifically to that day. One of his lines even tells Batman he'll 'be at your end,' which is exactly the kind of cryptic nonsense you'd expect from a villain whose entire gimmick is dates.

The Leg You Need to Reach the Cows

Remember Wirt, the peg-legged kid who overcharged you for gambling items in the first game? Click his corpse in Diablo II's Tristram and he drops his own severed leg, which you then need alongside a Tome of Town Portal to actually crack open the Secret Cow Level. Grim way to pay tribute to a character, but it works.

Mobius's House Number Points To Another Earth

When Loki tracks down a Sacred Timeline version of Mobius, we learn his real name is Don and his house is numbered 1049. Fans have latched onto this as a possible nod to Earth-1049, one of the countless designated realities scattered across Marvel's multiverse.

Black Ops Sold Faster Than Any Entertainment Release Before It

On its first day alone, Black Ops moved roughly 5.6 million copies across North America and the UK, pulling in about $360 million and beating the previous record set a year earlier by Modern Warfare 2. Activision called it the biggest entertainment launch in history at the time, and for a while nothing else in games, film, or publishing had come close.

Thanos's 'Court Death' Line Is a Comics Pun

In the post credits scene, an alien warns Thanos that attacking Earth would be to 'court death.' It sounds like a throwaway warning, but comic readers clocked it as a deliberate pun straight away, since Thanos is famously, literally in love with the physical embodiment of Death in the source material.

Mario's GameCube Ringtone

Keep your ears open during the plumbing commercial scene, because when Mario's phone goes off, the ringtone is the Nintendo GameCube startup chime. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it audio gag that only really lands if you grew up with the console.

The Season Four Recap Quietly Swaps Geralt's Face

Watch the opening recap of season four closely and you'll notice the Butcher of Blaviken flashback, originally Henry Cavill's scene from the very first episode, now plays out with Liam Hemsworth's face instead. It's framed as a story being retold generations later by an unreliable narrator, which is the show's clever in-universe excuse for the switch.
