Years after a nuclear apocalypse devastates America, a violent raid by bandits on an underground fallout shelter forces one of its residents to set out into a barren wasteland filled with radiation, mutated monsters, and a lawless society of those who remained on the surface.

A lot of that sun-scorched, dune-covered wasteland footage wasn't built on a soundstage, it's the real Skeleton Coast in Namibia. The crew leaned on the natural desert landscape rather than heavy CGI, which is a big part of why the wasteland feels so tangible and lived-in compared to a lot of other big-budget shows.
One of the eerier backdrops Lucy walks past while exploring the surface is the actual wreck of the Eduard Bohlen, a German cargo ship that ran aground on Namibia's coast back in 1909 and has been slowly swallowed by sand ever since. No set dressing needed, it was already sitting there looking perfectly post-apocalyptic.
The Red Rocket truck stop that shows up in the episode 'The Radio' is a genuine easter egg for players, since it's the exact type of gas station where you first meet Dogmeat in Fallout 4. To pull it off, the crew transformed a real petrol station in Nyack, New York into the iconic red-and-white design in just three days.
The Brotherhood of Steel's headquarters was filmed at Wendover Airfield in Utah, a genuine WWII-era base that's now a museum. It's not the show's first brush with fame either, the same airfield has previously turned up in Con Air, Independence Day, and Ang Lee's Hulk.
Amazon confirmed Fallout would return for a third season, announcing the renewal ahead of season two's launch. By that point the first two seasons had already pulled in over 100 million viewers worldwide between them, landing among the most-watched seasons in Prime Video's history.
Bethesda's Todd Howard came on board as an executive producer, bringing over ten years of history with the franchise as both director and producer on the games themselves. Having him in the room helped keep the show's tone and world-building honest to what longtime players already know.
For season two, production shifted away from Namibia and New York entirely, relocating to California so the team could recreate the neon ruins of New Vegas. The shift also let the crew build out locations more familiar from Fallout: New Vegas, following on from that final season one shot teasing the Strip.
