Far Cry 3's Nod to Task Force 141

MW2 was big enough that rival studios started referencing it. In Far Cry 3, a character named Willis Huntley casually mentions he's 'flying out to Russia with Task Force 141', borrowing the exact name of Soap and Price's elite unit for a quick joke.

Battlefield Took a Swing at MW2's Heartbeat Sensor

Not every studio was flattering about it though. In Battlefield: Bad Company 2, a character named Sweetwater mocks the idea of calling in backup by griping they'll just send 'special ops douchebags with pussy-ass heartbeat monitors on their guns', a pretty direct dig at MW2's signature gadget.

Martyrdom Became Infamous Almost Overnight

Drop dead with the Martyrdom perk equipped and you leave behind a live grenade for whoever killed you to deal with. Players hated it so much that by the time Modern Warfare 2 was in development, Infinity Ward's own lead artist publicly admitted the studio knew the community had strong feelings about it.
