The year is 2011, and civil war has broken out in Russia between the Russian government and Russian ultranationalists under the command of Imran Zakhaev who seek to restore Russia back to its former Soviet-style leadership. A revolution has toppled a regime in an unnamed Arabic country which has ties to the Russian ultranationalists, with Khaled al-Asad coming to power. These two simultaneous events are causing fear that al-Asad and Zakhaev might form an alliance and use nuclear weapons against the West. In response to these concerns, the United States and the United Kingdom conduct joint operations to put down both uprisings, without putting their own nations' security at risk. Will they succeed?

Every Training Drill Hands You a Different Gun

The game quietly uses its early missions to introduce you to different weapon types. You get the MP5 during the cargo ship practice run, the M21 during All Ghillied Up, and the W1200 shotgun doesn't show up until Charlie Don't Surf.

Sabotage Mode Puts the Bomb Up for Grabs

Unlike the attack-and-defend setup of Search and Destroy, the Sabotage game mode starts with a single bomb sitting neutral in the middle of the map, and both teams have to fight their way to it before they can even think about planting.

Creek Splits Its Two Sides With a Cave

One of the four maps added in the paid map pack, Creek is a small Russian village built around a ridge with a cave running through it, dividing the level cleanly down the middle and forcing fights into the handful of buildings on either side.

The W1200 Trades Range for Pure Stopping Power

One of only two shotguns in the game, the W1200 isn't built for accuracy or distance at all. It's purely about close-range damage, which is exactly why it first shows up in the tight corridors of Charlie Don't Surf.

Zakhaev Spent Fifteen Years Hiding Before Striking Back

After surviving the assassination attempt in Pripyat, Zakhaev doesn't resurface right away. He spends a decade and a half out of sight, quietly rebuilding his resources, before using them to declare war on the Russian government and kick off the events of the main campaign.
